Teenagers and sex
Okay, so I was watching the George Lopez show last night and his daughter Carmen decides that now that she is turning 16, she want's birth control pills. The argument ensues that she is too young to be having sex. Grandma Lopez, aka Benny, takes Carmen to the free clinic to get Birth control pills, which subsequently, her little brother thinks are mints and east 5....anyway.... Grandpa says he is against it, but it's better to be protected from teen pregnancy. Grandma is reliving her days of becoming pregnant at 16, and being abandoned by the father (George's). All the way around, they are freaking out, which parents will do, about Carmen wanting to be "ready" when the time comes. I'm gonna agree. Gone are the days where you can actually talk to your child and have them "make" it until marriage. Too much pressure. It is GOING to happen. period. My 17 year old says it's weird if you are a virgin at 17. Her doctor say's sex is like AIR to teens. I prefer not to be stupid - I know how I got pregnant, and it's the same way for everyone else! Get the Pills. get the Condoms. Have a conversation. Lots of them.

I am a mother of 2; A 23 year old son, and a 17 year old daughter. I have raised a number of step children and am an aunt to several nieces who had children in their teens. Too bad they didn't see me first. I'd do what Benny did.
